The botanical garden of the Karakalpak branch of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been operating since 1991.
On the territory of the botanical garden there is a main laboratory building, as well as a greenhouse, where various types of ornamental plants are grown.
The main activity of the Botanical Garden is the introduction and acclimatization of plants from different geographic zones and regions on the saline soils of the south of the Aral Sea region, as well as the attraction and preservation of rare and endangered species of local flora ”. Study of their ecology and biology under stationary conditions, identification of species and forms useful for the national economy, development of scientific foundations for the introduction of wild plants into culture.
In this ecological object, a technology has been developed for growing woody and herbaceous plants by seed and vegetative means for green construction, the timing of sowing and planting them in the south of the Aral Sea region. Three dendrological regions for the introduction of woody plants on the territory of Karakalpakstan were identified: Ustyurt, Kyzylkum and Nizhneamudarya, which coincide with agroclimatic districts and geobotanical regions.
The botanical garden cooperates with potential 19 foreign and 50 botanical gardens of the CIS, exchanges seeds and planting material with them. The Botanical Garden is a scientific institution of Karakalpakstan, where the urgent problem of today "Introduction and acclimatization of plants" is being developed.
In this botanical garden, it is possible to organize tourist visits for the population of the region, as well as for foreigners, which will allow attracting investments for further development.
