At a distance of about forty kilometers south of Samarkand in the Urgut region, the Amankutan tract is located.
This place of valleys and high mountains, incomparable in its beauty. Every year naturalists, lovers of beautiful nature and travelers from all over the world come here. Amankutan tract is located at the junction of the Chakylkalyan mountains and the Karatepe ridge. Through it passed the way from Sogd to Bactria, from Samarkand to Kesh in ancient times. Their point of contact is the Takhtakaracha pass, located at an altitude of 1675 m above sea level on the border with the southern regions of Uzbekistan.
The southern slopes fall steeply into the Kashkadarya valley, sometimes forming cliffs of 100-250 meters or more. A charming view of the Kitab district of the Kashkadarya region opens from here.
In the tract there is a huge number of rare medicinal plants, unique species of plants reaching more than 2 meters in height, as well as many types of beautiful trees that create a local unique landscape. There is also a wide variety of avifauna.
In winter, Amankutan snow covers stone sculptures, trails and mudflows. Amankutan is rightfully considered a natural monument of Uzbekistan.
